Invoices have local rules

An invoice is a legal document, and the required fields differ by country: tax identifiers, sequential numbering, currency and language, storage duration, and increasingly the format itself.

Countries are moving to mandatory electronic invoicing on their own timetables. If you sell across borders, check which of them the tool supports today rather than on a roadmap.

Recurring versus one-off

Sending the same invoice monthly is a different product from raising an ad hoc bill. Subscription billing adds proration, plan changes, dunning and revenue reporting, and most simple invoicing tools do none of it.

Getting paid

Payment methods matter more than the invoice template. Check which providers connect, what the fee is, and whether the payment reconciles automatically against the invoice.

What to check

Raise one invoice with tax, one with a discount, and one credit note. Then export the lot and hand it to whoever does your books.
